Research note 01 · Record quality

Keeping a PDF footer out of a candidate’s name.

Correction published

The extraction used for the September Candidate Register appended PDF pagination to 2,135 name fields across nine provincial data files. Text such as “Page 19 of 2137” belongs to the document footer, not to a candidate’s name.

What changed

We removed only a trailing fragment matching the national PDF’s page-footer format. The correction applies to the searchable data and affected static pages. It adds or removes no nomination rows and changes no party, municipality, ward number or PR-list position.

The original imported files remain preserved in our source archive. The reviewed national PDF has SHA-256 a1afeae65b45cf5401ad15739fb54951fa86605b54da222a2f3b3d148ddb523b. The same published file was retrieved successfully on 20 October.

What this does not establish

This is a transcription correction to the 16 September snapshot. It does not import the later court-related reinstatements. The September data’s three blank-name rows and 68-row difference from the IEC’s announced total remain unresolved. We will not invent replacements to reconcile those figures.

How to challenge a record

Supply the page, the specific entry and an authoritative source. A missing entry in this snapshot does not establish current exclusion from the election.
