Trust is built in the details

Our editorial standards.

Political conviction carries a duty to report carefully, attribute accurately and correct the record.

Identity and accountability

The People’s Register is published by ANC Nelson Mandela Region and powered by Digital Origin through a publishing and technology partnership. Our About page explains that relationship. The masthead identifies editorial leadership and contact routes.

Articles identify the responsible contributor or desk. News, analysis, opinion and public information are labelled so that readers can understand the form and purpose of the work.

Evidence and attribution

Material factual claims should be supported by primary documents, direct reporting or clear attribution. Identify the source and date of an official record. Distinguish what a source says from the publication’s interpretation.

Fairness and precise language

Distinguish allegations, preliminary findings, court orders and established facts. Seek an appropriate response from people or institutions materially criticised. Record whether a response was received and reflect material responses fairly.

Analysis and opinion

Arguments are attributed to their authors. Opinion labels do not remove the duty to support factual claims, identify relevant interests and avoid presenting inference as verified fact.

Public registers

Candidate records are reproduced from the published certified lists. Station pages identify their source and the limits of the reviewed snapshot. Gaps and discrepancies must be visible. The register is a publication of public information; readers should confirm their registration and assigned station with the IEC.

Images, contributions and promotion

Use accurate captions, credits and permissions. Image presentation must preserve the meaning of the original. Paid or sponsored material must be clearly identified. A contribution or political affiliation does not establish the truth of a claim.

Corrections and updates

Confirmed factual errors should be corrected. Material changes should carry an appropriate update or correction note. Original publication dates must not be changed to make an old story appear newly published.

Use the corrections page to raise a specific concern, supply evidence or request a response. Confirmed changes are recorded in the corrections and publication updates log.

Privacy and participation

Collect only the information needed for the purpose a reader has chosen. Newsletter consent is separate from an editorial submission or an organising enquiry. Read the privacy and consent notice.
